“THE DEVIL DANCER” For this week’s big picture, the Majestic Theatre has secured the mo£t unusual and amazing film creation yet shown at that popular rendezvous. The picture is “The Devil Dancer,” a sensational story that delves deep into the Inner temples of the devil worshippers, snd shows for the first time the autlienth devil dance as danced in Tibet. The story is an original one, written for the exotic Miss Gilda Gray by Harry Hervey, author of novels of the Orient and its strange people In the cast with Miss Gray are Clive Brook, in the principal male role, Anna May Wong, Michael Vavitch, Sojin, James Leong, Clarissa Selwynne and Albert Conti. With, the presentation of “The Devil Dancer,” Auckland will receive its first authentic view of Tibet, the isolated mountain section of Northern India, inhabited only by the devil-worshipping monk cults. Miss Gray plays the title role, an English girl, a vestal virgin. She is held prisoner by the monks, to dance before them in the temple of the devil gods. The entire production, it is reported, has been lavishly mounted to gain the utmost in pictorial effect in the reproduction of the picturesque background of the original story. Heading the list of attractions on the supporting programme is “Sunshine City,” an enchanting scenic of Auckland, showing well-known landmarks. Then follows an hilarious comedy, “Aching Youth.” Concluding the supporting programme is the ever-popular Majestic News, with views of the latest* events in both England and America. A very beautiful Oriental prologue, featuring descriptive Eastern music, including the “Kashmiri Song,” precedes the screening of the photo-play. A special musical programme has been arranged by Mr. Whiteford Waugh for his Majestic Orchestra- This talented combination will feature as the overture “Saragosso” (Greunwald).
