Heavy Tracks For Trotters FINAL WORK HAMPERED GRASS TRIALS AT MANGERE The training circuit at Alexandra Park was again unfit for use this morning, with the result that work was undertaken on the sand track, which allowed only of medium-pace exercise. A number of visiting horses put in an appearance, and in the majority of cases they all show signs of being in forward condition. The Derby pair Wrackler and Wrackeen were subjected to close scrutiny by the onlookers, who could find no fault with D. Warner’s charges. 5. G. Holmes’s trio, Harvest Child, Sonoma Child and Laplander, did light tasks, but they look to be quite in readiness for their respective bouts on Saturday. Fight Ever and Jackie Audubon, which comprises J. J. Kennerley’s team, attracted a lot of attention by their bright, healthy appearance, and they appear well seasoned. W. Willetts gave Kolmar some strong work on the sand, and the Taranaki trotter revelled in his work, showing that he is in fine trim for his Epsom encounters. J. Shaw’s team did steady work and their excellent appearance was the subject of favourable comment from many visitors, who were present this morning With track conditions unsuitable at Epsom, W. J. Tomkinson took his team by motor lorry to Otahuhu, where the grass circuit was available. F. Gilchrist also made the trip; while A. Julian took the opportunity of giving his Derby candidate a run on the turf. Dalmeny and Pageant worked soundly over two miles, and although they were not out to register fast time, the effort was a pleasing one. Both pacers are in splendid trim for their racing tasks. The Derby candidates, Rolfe Audubon and Hinkler, were sent' over the classic distance, pacing freely. They gave a neat display, but appeared to have had enough- at the finish. Young Blake trotted in approved style over two miles, doing his work with plenty of vim and relish. He is in rare trim, and will make his presence felt at the fixture. Etta Cole was stepped over a mile and a-half, accomplishing her task in a pleasing manner. Her recent track work acclaims her a greatly improved trotter.
