ELECTION CAMPAIGN

MEETINGS TO-NIGHT FOUR CANDIDATES SPEAK

What promises to be one of the most vigorous election campaign® in the history of this city will be opened this evening when four candidates will address Auckland electors.

Up to the present, activities have been mainly confined to committee meetings and preliminary organisation. In the Auckland metropolitan area no fewer than 29 candidates will contest the 10 electorates.

Tho official Reform candidate for the newly-created electorate of Auckland Suburbs, Sir James Gunson, will make his first policy *|>eech, when he will address the electors at Henderson, at 8 p.m. One of his opponents, Mr. E. R. Allen, of the United Party, will speak at Birkenhead, in the Foresters* Hall, also at 8 p.m. The campaign in RoskiU will also be opened this evening. Mr. A. S. Richards, the Labour candidate, will expound his party’s policy in the Edendale lecture Theatre at 7.20 p.m. Mr. W. T. Anderton, Labour aspirant for Eden, will hold a public meeting in tho Methodist Hall, Dominion Road, at 8 p.m. this evening. Meetings of candidates’ supporters to-night are as follow: Mr. R. H. Greville (Waitemata).— Pieturedrome, Milford, 7.45 p.m. Mr. J. B. Donald (Auckland East).— Parnell Library Hall, 8 p.m. Mr. A. J. Stallworthy (Eden). — Ivingsland Methodist Hall, S p.m. Mr. J. S. Fletcher (Grey Lynn).— Kingsland Methodist Hall, 3 p.m. “VERY MUCH ALIVE” Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. Last night Sir Joseph Ward received a telegram from Mr. G. McKay, the United Party candidate for Hastings, stating that a report was current of his death. Sir Joseph was able to reply reassuring Mr. McKay and adding: “I am very much alive and in excellent health.”
