TAKAPUNA MARDI GRAS

POSTPONED INDEFINITELY FLORAL FETE INSTEAD The Mardi Gras festival which has been suggested for Christmas week in Takapuna will not be held. At a meeting of the executive committee last evening, a resolution was carried delaying the scheme indefinitely. In its place, however, it was decided to organise a less ambitious one-daj floral fete, to be held In Taharoto Park on Saturday. December 15. A rough scheme was drawn up, ana it will be submitted at a further meeting of the committee, to be held on Tuesday, October 16. This scheme provides for competitions for the bestdecorated vehicles, including prams and bo vs’ trollies; fo.r displays- by the two surf clubs of the borough, and by the local fire brigade. It is also proposed to hold a North Shore primary and secondary schools athletic championship meeting, while inter-school basketball and physical drill competitions have been suggested. The chief reason for the decison to delay the main scheme is the recent announcement of the opening of the ‘Ye Olde Pirate Shipp©” cabaret at Milford at the same time as that or’ ally decided upon for the Mardi Gras, the committee feeling that in the clash of ventures the carnival might suffer finar#ially.
