SHANGHAI STRIKE ENDS
BROKEN BY VOLUNTEERS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SHANGHAI, Sunday. The postal strike in Shanghai has been broken by volunteer workers, principally foreign Boy Scouts. They undertook sorting and delivery work and maintained the essential services. As a result the strikers succumbed and returned to work. At Peiping (formerly Peking), the strike continues. The strikers are demanding complete Chinese control and the discharge of all foreign employees, also the adoption of Chinese as the official language excepting in matters relating to the Internationa! Postal Union. - No statement about the demands has been issued by the authorities. It is reported that the Kuomintang has advised the men to return to work and has promised to secure favourable consideration of their demands.
