Auckland Meeting Weights for the concluding day (Monday) of the Auckland spring fixture are due at 8 o'clock to-night, and acceptances close at 9 p.m. A Handy Sort The steeplechaser Handy has won three out of his last four attempts over country. He is to contest the Onehunga Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Monday, and as he gave a faultless exhibition over the - hill on Thursday morning he will be in demand. Potoanui may bother him, however. June Wine Retired Owing to frequent attacks of soreness, the Australian-bred June Wine, the three-year-old until recently attached to F. Gilchrist’s stable at Ellerslie. has been relegated to the stud. This big upstanding filly is a daughter of Hochelaga and Lorita Howard, and was purchased as a yearling in Australia by Mr. W. J. AVilson. Back At Ellerslie The three-year-old colt known last season as Tea Tattle —that name was previously claimed for a youngster at Hastings, however —is under the direction of owner-trainer J. Manuel, who may lease the Tea Tray colt from Mr. W. Taylor, the owner of Golden Wedding. The bay youngster has been engaged in road work for the last month or so, and consequently he is in quite good fettle just now. He made his reappearance at headquarters on Tuesday. The Beau Gets a Rest Recognising the fact that Beau Cavalier did not give of his best in the Jellicoe Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting last Saturday his connections have decided to give the Chesterfield gelding a short respite, and he will bo allowed to remain in the paddock for four or five weeks.
A Change Diamond Queen, who was under the direction of the Pukekohe trainer, B. Cowan, lias been returned to her owner, Mr. J. Ross, who also races Bizarro. The daughter of Plying Comet will in future be prepared by her owner, and although still a maiden performer, she has occasionly shown glimpses of form, and may possibly work her way out of this division before the end of the current year. Searchlight? •T- Williamson lias not definitely decided on a name for the Treclarc— Headlight gelding attached to his stable, but it is possible the two-year-old will race under the name of Searchlight. The two-year-old was sprinted over three furlongs at Ellerslie on Thursday morning, being accompanied by Lady Suzanne, who is endowed with tons of pace for a short journey. Nevertheless Searchlight ran very satisfactorily, and was holding his opponent at the end. To Race On Monday At Avondale a fortnight ago punters regarded Miss New Zealand as an exceptionally good investment, .and they got a shock—the daughter of Nassau only had one behind her at the finish of her race. Since then she has done nicely, and is to race at Ellerslie on Monday. Her form on this occasion is expected to be much better, for the outing at the suburban fixture should have worked an improvement in W. Patterson’s representative. Veteran Trainer Laid Up The many friends of S. Waddell will regret to learn that he is confined to his room with a severe attack°of rheumatic fever. In his affliction it is a, sure thing that he will have the sympathy of a legion of well-wisliers, whose ardent hopes will be for a quick recovery.
