Stout Folk — Beware of Drapes!
Too Many Spoil The Frocks MAXIM FOR MASSES Stout women are developing a mania for draped frocks with irregular piece of material, which wriggle crazily about in a mass of points and obtrusive edges from bodice to hem. In attempting to hide the natural stout line of the figure, auy grace that ir.'ght be there is hidden in bulky reams of material which are supposed to give “length and slendering curves.” Most of the rules that govern matrons’ frocks at present only draw attention to stoutness. A Worrying Time It is the stout woman’s frock over which the dressmaker has to spend a worrying time, and put in three times as much work as in a frock for a slender girl.
Big women have lost sight of the maxim that simplicity has a beauty of its own, and have made too much trouble in try' lg to deceive the world as to their proportions. Too many drapes have been the ruin of many a smart gown, which, with just one graceful point on the skirt, a few secretive tucks on the bodice, and around the waistline, would serve the purpose of “slenderising,” and be a credit to the wearer.
