More Say Wanted in Dairy Control
FARMERS’ UNION MOVE MINISTER NOT SYMPATHETIC It is unlikely that farmers will have larger representation on the Dairy Control Board f according to a letter received from the Minister of Agriculture by the Waikato sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union yesterday. The executive recently sent a resolution objecting to the retention on the board of Government and trade nominees. The Alinister’s reply said that, as control boards are vested with wide powers of control over produce owned by all interests, proprietary as well as co-operative, and having regard to the influence which is exerted by these powers on the welfare of the producers and consumers in New Zealand, the Government believes that it is only equitable that interests immediately concerned and the Government, should have representation. Alembers considered that it was useless to make any comment. Other means, they decided, would have to be adopted to secure more representation on the board for the farming community.
