WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

DOMINION EVENTS CLOSE CONTESTS AT RAETIHI (From Our Own Correspondent) RAETIHI, Friday. The New Zealand amateur wrestling championships were held at Raetihi this evening. The heavy, middle, and light-weight classes, which were decided, attracted a large attendance, and the standard of wrestling in all three weights was considered to be very high. The heavy-weight class especially provided some very exciting contests, and in the final bout, which was fast and hard, D. Scarrow retained the championship. Alec Anderson (Palmerston North) won the middle-weight championship, and E. Podjuisky (Turakina) the lightweight title. At the conclusion of the contests cups were presented by Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P. Air. J. B. Ferguson (Palmerston North) acted as referee, and Air. A. W. Ashwell as timekeeper.
