NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
COUNCIL DELIBERATIONS The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Northcote Borough Council was held last evening the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding. Mr. William Watson wa? appointed borough cattle ranger. Building permits to the value of £1,752 were granted for the month ending September 30. The district engineer advised that a subsidy of £25 (£1 for £1) has been approved for additional work on the children's playground on the municipal reserve, for the relief of unemployment. It was decided to co-operate with the Birkenhead Council in obtaining the necessary guarantors for the installation of the automatic telephone service.
Draff legislation validating payments by the council in connection with the Takapuna destructor has been provisionally approved of by the Minister of Internal Affairs. The Town Clerk said he had informed the member for the district Mr A. Harris, M.P., that the council had rft>t withdrawn its opposition to the War Memorial Bill. It had taken no action beyond advising him. Mr. A. Harris wrote notifying «ie council that the Post and telegraph Department intends erecting the post office on the site at the corner of Queen Street and Greville Road. Dealing with the representations made by the council regarding the retention of the preseet postmistress as officer in charge of the new building, this was a matter solely for the promoti /ns board.
