ROSKILL ROAD BOARD

ACCURATE ACCOUNTS MOVE FOR BOROUGH STATUS Upon the treasurer reporting to the Mount Boskill Road Board last evening that the board’s accounts had been satisfactorily audited, thq chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, said that the board should know that the auditor had voluntarily expressed his satisfaction with the straightforward manner in which the accounts had been kept. It was the first audit he had conducted for many years* that had not required ;i tag. It had not been necessary to alter a single figure. The Roskill South Ratepayers’ Association wrote asking for better postal facilities, including a slot telephone near the corner of May and Richardson Roads, also additional street lights and footpaths in Ridge Road, and a footpath in May Road. With the exception of the latter, which was considered unnecessary at present, the board decided to support the proposals. The Roskill West Ratepayers’ Association notified that It was in no way connected with the Roskill South P.utepavers’ Association, and that it was not in favour of amalgamation with the city, but was actively engaged In advocating the constitution of Mount Roskill as a borough.

Further representations as to the necessity for a tram stop at Rose Road have elicited a reply from the Citv Councir declining to reinstate this stoppingplace. Applications are to be called for a caretaker for Waikowhai Park. The engineer reported that the new fire plugs in the Winstone Park Estate had been tested with a standard nydrant and found in order. In response to a request by the Auckland City Council to confer on the question of town-planning in reference to boundary questions, the board's townplanning committee was delegated to meet the town-planning committee of the City Council. During the past fortnight 16 building permits have been issued including one for the new public school in May Road, which is to cost £2,000. Twenty-five buildings are in course of erection in the district. The general account is £5,745 in debit.
