STEEL DRUM EXPLODES

WORKER'S FACE INJURED Press Association WELLINGTON. Tuesday. An explosion in a steel drum caused painful facial injuries to John Henry McConvill at Petone. Mr. McConvill, who is employed by the Allender Soap Works in Udy Street, was swilling out with sulphuric acid and water the interior of a drum which had contained oil of citronella, when the contents exploded with such force as to blow one end of the drum through a three-inch concrete wall, across Shorts Lane, and through a fence on the other side, in all a distance of about 30 yards. Mr. McConvill received part of the force of the explosion, together with some acid on his face.

He was taken to the Wellington Hospital.
