SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
GENERAL SCHEME SUBMITTED To secure ‘synchronisation of holidays for all school children and students, the Council of Education has approved of a scheme of dates and recommen"''l that it should be adopted by the controlling authorities of public, primary, secondary and technical schools and private schools. The scheme, considered by rhe Auckland Education Board to-day, made the following suggestions: Primary schools, year to commence on fifth Monday of the year so long as it falls in February, otherwise on February 1. First term holidays 14 davs, commencing on the 19th Monday. Second term to be 13 weeks, commencing on 21st Monday: holidays, 14 davs commencing on 34th Monday. Third term, 15 weeks, beginning on Tuesday following 36fh Monday. For secondary and technical schools commenieng day to be the Tuesday after February 2. First term holidays I be the same as primary schools | term to begin on same Mon- ; day, but holidays to be one week I longer than primary schools. School year to close on approximately the same date.
ior it was suggested that the commencing date for primary schools should be Monday, February 4, and for secondary schools. Tuesday February 5.
Tho board decided to approve of the general scheme but to reserve the right to make slight variations to suit special conditions.
