ASSEMBLY HALL OPENED AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE
BIG CROWD AT CEREMONY The Assembly Hall which has been built at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, was officially opened this afternoon in the presence of a large number of students and friends of the college. Mr. H. S. TV. King, chairman of the College Board of Managers, presided. The hall is part of a new wing consisting of two class rooms, a gymnasium, a board room, and incidental rooms in addition to the hall itself. The funds for the building have been provided through a bequest of £3.9SU made by Mr. W. J. limns, and another of £I,OOO from Mr. R. Hindley. These moneys have been allowed to accumulate since 1922. The Education Department refused to make a contribution toward the cost of The hall, but a grant of £2.750 was made for the class rooms provided, and this additional money made the erection of (he wing, costing £II,OOO, a possibility. During the opening ceremony, a memorial tablet to the benefactors who provided the funds for the building, was unveiled by Air. E. Jamc**, president of the Past Students’ Association.
The hall, built almost in the stylo of a theatre, is one of the best of its kind in the Dominion, and has a seating capacity of 950. At one end there is an ample stage, and at the other, a large gallery.
