MAJESTIC
EXCELLENT PROGRAMME Laughter is the keynote of the sparkling bill of fare offered to picturegoers by the Majestic Theatre. The whole programme sparkles from beginning to end. A merry comedy-drama, “If I Were Single,” is the first laughter attraction on the programme, with May McAvoy and Conrad Nagel in the principal roles. The stars are seen as May and Ted Howard, bride and groom of a year and at a stage where “billing and cooing” have lost a bit of their kick. Hence, when Myraa Loy in the role of the thrill-seeking Joan happens on the scene, the somewhat jaded Ted starts a flirtation that soon brings about a critical condition in the Howard household. To reciprocate for imagined and real wrongs May flirts with her piano instructor, and for a time it looks as though a hurried divorce will follow. Next in importance is “His Favourite Wife,” a hilarious Van Bibber comedy, dealing with a fashionable wedding and the adventures of the newly-married couple, when a huge gorilla appears on the scene. “Lords of the Back Fence,” a study in cats, is both amusing and interesting. Tho war-scarred veterans of the alleys, the prize-winners of the bluist b d —Persian, Angora, Siamese, and e\ ~n the common backyard varieties all appear. Concluding th® pictorial programme is an interesting Majestic Magazine, with views of the Nobile polar exhibition.
A gorgeous and beautiful stage interlude is “Gems of the Bohemian Girl,’ sung by Miss Christina Ormiston and the Majestic Male Quartette. Against a colourful background of a gipsy encampment, these talented singers give the favourite old songs, “I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls,” “When Other Lips,” “Through the World,” and “The Gipsy Chorus.” “A Day in Naples” (Byng) is featured by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Ma jestio Orchestra.
