POOR MAN WINS £20,000
A FOOTBALL GUESSER LONDON, Sept. 19. A prize of £20,000 given by the “Sunday Despatch” for forecasting correctly 24 football results was won by Tom Hartley. He is an unemployed loom sweeper, and has been frequently "on the dole” this year. Since Hartley and his wife were 11 years of age, except when he was on war service, they have worked side by side at the loom, at which his wife remained while Hartley came to London to receive the cheque. The largest sum he had previously possessed was £17 —his war gratuity.
