MAD HATTERS’ BALL

Mad liats and quaint, old-fashioned hats, mostly made from coloured paper, adorned the heads of dancers in the Town Hall at Ohakune on Friday evening. The hall was prettily decorated with paper flags and lycopodium. The proceeds were in aid of “Miss Ohakune” in the “Miss Waimarino Competition.” Nearly everyone wore comical hats, and those who were without were duly fined at the mock court held before supper. The judges were Mesdarnes Goldfinch, Reid and Rogue, Messrs. Bravo, Nation and Gordon, and the prizes were awarded as follows: Maddest hats: Mrs. Standish and Mr. Hume. Original hats: Miss Howard (cornet), Mr. G. Goldfinch (smoke cap).

Old-fashioned hat: Mrs. M. J. Davis and Mr. L. Fetyer. Prettiest hat: Mrs. J.'Cosford. The music was supplied by the Waimarino Silver Band, Peerless Trio. Mrs. Leckie and Mr. C. Plank. The master of ceremonies was Mr. J. Colman. ,
