PIONEERS’ REUNION
SETTLERS OF 1840 Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. There was a unique gathering at Wellington to-day under the auspices of the Early Settlers and Historical Association of Wellington. It was attended by several of the pioneers who arrived in New Zealand in the 1840 decade. Sir Donald McLean presided. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, and Lady Alice Fergusson talked informally with the survivors of the colonisation days. The honorary secretary, Mr. W. Toomath, read the roil call of members and among those who answered in person were: Mr. Geo. Judd, of Hutt, who arrived in New Zealand by the Martha Ridgway in 1840; Mr. George Pain (Oriental), Mrs. Cornford (The Gertrude), 1841, who was presented to their Excellencies; Mrs. E. J. Brown (h£e Kinniburgh), 1843; Mr. Alfred Mills (Johnsonville), 1843; Mrs. Jamieson (nee Williams), the first white child born at Tolaga Bay; Mr. T. P. Allen (Hutt), 1845; Mrs. Baker and Miss E. H. Allen, 1849; Mrs. Player, 1850; Miss C. Allen, 1852; Mrs. Chisholm, 1855.
