LABOUR BARONET

WILL HE REFUSE TITLE? SIR 0. MOSLEY DEAD (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.25 a.m. LOXDOX, Friday. The death has occurred of Sir Oswald Mosley. In the newspapers there is speculation "whether Mr. Mosley, the Labour M.P.. will carry out his oft-repeated determination to refuse his father’s baronetcy. Legally he cannot avoid the succession, but he may choose not to use the title. The controversy between the baronet and his Socialist son is recalled, in which the father declared that if the son and the daughter-in-law, who is a rich heiress, wanted to do something for the country, they had better give up some of their wealth. He said: “My son had every opportunity of doing good service to the country, instead of devoting himself to stirring up spite and discontent. He has not done a decent day’s work in his life. He was born with a gold spoon in bis mouth, and lived on the fat of the land.”

Sir Oswald Mosley, fifth baronet, was born in 1873, and succeeded his father in 1915. His heir is Mr. Oswald Ernald Mosley (born 1896), Labour M.P. for Smethwick since 1926, who married in 1920 Lady Cynthia Curzon, second daughter of the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston.
