GOOD WEATHER CONDITIONS TRACK IN CAPITAL ORDER CANDIDATES “SPEEDING UP” The beautiful weather experienced during the latter part of the week made training operations quite a pleasure at Alexander Park, while the splendid state of the track left no cause for complaint. Owners and trainers whose candidates are forward enough to undertake solid tasks gave their charges a rouse up which will prove beneficial. Should the weather hbld good for any length of time, Auckland representatives will have a chance of getting ready for the opposition next month. A Speedy Pair The Abbey (Gold Bell—Abbess) and Warfilane (Man-o’-War— Air Raid) were stepped over a mile, which they left behind in good style. The Abbey continued the journey alone over another half-mile, showing a fine turn of speed. The chestnut was more tractable than when first brought to Epsom Warplane, who has picked up a lot during the past fortnight, paced attractively, and appeared to revel in his work.
Solid Trotter Koro Peter, who has furnished into a nice colt, trotted over several circuits in faultless fashion. He had Native Prince, who was working free-legged, as a companion, and the Native King horse urged the son of Peter Moko and Koro Epa to step along at a solid clip. The three-year-old is a clean trotter, and unless something unforeseen happens, will reach good society when he gets a bit more age. Maggie Shows Speed Margaret Wallace (Gold Bell— Florrie Roe) caused a surprise among some of the spectators by the resolute way she accomplished a work-out with Admiral Lock, who is in nice shape at present. The son of Admiral Wood was not loafing on the journey, but •Ted Sandall’s mare was always with him. Margaret is not devoid of speed, and when she learns to take a matter-of-fact view of the racing business, and do things right at the starting gate, she will not bo long in showing a return. Doing It Better Nihilist Junior (Four Chimes—Woodroof) and Chrystal (Gold Bell—Dorothy Dimple) gave a pleasing exhibition over 10 furlongs, without any pretence at clock-winding. The ex-Southland pacer went more evenly than at any time since coming North, when hitched to the sulky, and the saddle exponent may yet prove his worth in harness. Chrystal, whose present condition is a handsome tribute to the ability and patience of trainer H. Kinnimont, has a good style of locomotion, and when more experienced should be a useful sort. Youngster Coming On Great Way (Peterwah —Medway) and Roma Bingen (Nelson Bingen— Crimson Rose) moved over several circuits at a good working clip. The youngster, whose style of trotting resembles that of his great sire, went evenly throughout, and hung on to his more experienced associate in a determined manner. Roma Bingen, who has only been in from the paddock a few weeks, is coming to hand quickly, and working with fine freedom.
