AIRMEN’S DECISION RETURN FROM WAIRAKEI ***.tj. s , (Special to THE SUN) WAIRAKEI, To-day. Squadron • Leader Kingsford Smith said yesterday that Auckland would be circled by the three planes if there was a following wind for the flight South, but in the event of head wind on their journey this would be impossible. Leaving Wairakei early this morning, the airmen will reach Auckland early in the evening. The time of their arrival is indefinite, as no timetable will be followed. A short stop will be made at Arapunl. The Litchfield School, which bears the same name as the navigator of the Southern Cross, will bo visited for a few minutes. Other stops will also be made. The airmen will attend the Auckland Aero Club ball in the Town Hall this evening. ARRIVAL ON SUNDAY / WANGANUI CLERGY’S VIEWS VARY (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Friday. Th 6 Anglican clergy of Wanganui have adopted the same attitude as the Mayor of Christchurch concerning the airmen’s arrival on Sunday. The clergy met this morning and unanimously passed a resolution protesting against the Sunday arrival. However, their ideas are not shared by all the churchmen of Wanganui. A telegram was sent to Kingsford Smith by the churchwardens of one local congregation Inviting the visiting flyers to attend a service on Sunday evening. SEARCHLIGHT TO BE SENT TO BLENHEIM TW© NEW FIGHTING PLANES (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The searchlight from Fort Dorset, Which was installed at Wigram before the trans-Tasman flight, will be sent to Blenheim on Monday, to be used, if required, for the departure of the Southern Cross. The latest additions to the fleet of airplanes at Wigram are two new Gloster-Grebe single-seater fighters, with 385 h.p. Jaguar engines. One machine, which has dual control for instruction purposes, is capable of a speed of 150 miles an hour. It will be assembled as soon as the Southern Cross has gone.
