SPENDING PETROL TAX

WAITEMATA COUNTY COMPLAINS The allocation of the petrel tax came up for some strong criticism at the Waitemata County Council meeting yesterday, when it was stated that the allocation on the AucklandHamilton Road was 75 per cent., and on the road northward through the county only 25 per cent. The council had been advised that it was more important that connection should be made between Hamilton and Auckland than that further radial roads should be improved. Members said they had apparently been compelled to take a “back seat” in the matter, and would have to leave it at that.
