SHELTER AT PARNELL
TO CLOSE THIS MONTH 16,000 MEALS AND 8,000 BEDS PROVIDED During the three months the Men’s i Shelter at Parnell has been open, 16,000 meals and 8,000 beds have been provided for the homeless and destitute, absolutely free of charge. Opened at the beginning of July, the shelter will be closed down at the end of this month. A great number of men have been found work in the country from time to time. Boots and clothing have been provided, the cost of running the institution being about £25 a. week. Between £4O and £SO is yet required to pay all outstanding debts up to the end of this month. It is estimated that bed and meals have been provided at a cost of 2Ad a piece.
The committee controlling the organisation thank the public for the generous donations received since the shelter was opened. The staff of the Farmers’ Union has given £lO a week toward the funds by introducing a hf.y among themselves.
Members of the Church ot England Men’s Society have attended at the shelter regularly to assist in the provision of supper and to entertain the men.
