MR. THOMAS JAMES One of the oldest residents of Ngaruawaliia, Mr. Thomas James, died on Wednesday at the age of 89. Born in North Wales, Mr. James arrived in New Zealand in 1864 and for some time worked in Auckland, later moving to Ngaruawahra, where he engaged in farming on the banks of the Waipa. He retired about 17 years ago. He was one of the foundati«fcß members of the Ngaruawahia Bowling Club and was a member of the Presbyterian Ctfurch. MR. C. S. GOLDSMITH A well-known business man of Auckland, Mr. Charles Stephen Goldsmith, died suddenly yesterday at the age of 51. For a number of years Mr. Goldsmith has been manager of Dadley’s, Ltd., with which firm he has served for over 30 years. He was at work as usual yesterday morning and appeared to be in his usual good health, but shortly before noon he was seized with a severe heart attack and died before a doctor arrived. A keen bowder, Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Grey Lynn Club and for many years had served on the committee. He was vice-president for six years, but declined to seek higher honours. Mr. Goldsmith is survived by hig wife and daughter. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon.
