Pukemiros Moving Upward

A HEAVY volume of business -tvas put through outside the call room this morning. Many of the sales represented business on a firmer market.

New Zealand Insurances advanced a further 6d this morning, business being recorded at 435. The market closed with sellers asking 45s 6d, finding support at 44s 6d. South British were dealt with at 62s 9d. Nationals are not wanted at the moment. With holders unattracted and unwilling to make a declaration, buyers for Pukemiros moved up to 73s at midday. Renowns are steady with a middle price slightly above yesterday’s market. New Zealand Breweries weakened yesterday afternoon to see business at 51s, but recovered again this morning when sales were recorded at 52s Gd. Sellers of New Zealand Farmers’ Fertilisers came in at mid-day at 90s to find buyers slightly firmer at 85s Gd A sign of the times, showing the little faith held in mining concerns, was noted this morning, when advice was received on ’Change of a sample of picked stone from the Maoriland

mine which had been found to possess an assay value of £6l 7s by the Thames School assayists. This, it was estimated, worked out at over £4l a ton for general ore. The market for the company’s scrip did not show the slightest movement, and sellers at lOd were unsupported. The market for Waihis is slightly firmer, holders at mid-day asking 13s 2d. Business yesterday afternoon: —On ’Change: New Zealand Breweries, 51s; British Tobacco, 445. Reported: New Zealand Breweries (deb.), 24s 2d. Business at this morning’s oarly call: —Reported: National Bank of New Zealand, £7 ss; New Zealand Insurance, 455; Queensland Insurance, 65s 3d. Business at mid-day:—Reported: Commercial Bank, 30s sd; English, Scottish and Australian Bank, £8 16s; South British Insurance, 62s 9d; Huddart Parker, 48s 3d.
