PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS Members of the Ponsonby Cruising' Club us u whole seem to be well satisfied with the conduct of its activities. as only a very small number attended tho annual meeting held last evening. The report stated that racing' had been conducted on five days for all classes of yachts and launches. The annual regatta was a great success. The thanks of the club were due to the Melanesian Mission and Captain Burgess for the use of the S.Y. Southern Cross as flagship. Cup Bay was an outstanding success. Cash prizes and trophies to the value of £l5O had been distributed, in addition to cups valued at £3OO. Thanks were due to Messrs. Gimblett and Francis for further cups, also to vice-presidents and others for trophies. The balance-sheet showed sound finances. There was a credit of £39 on the year’s workings. The clubhouse building fund now stood at £276, beinis an increase of £44 for the year. The Hewson Memorial Fund amounted to £lO4, a slight increase. The excess of assets over liabilities was £702. Moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the commodore, Mr. A. Thompson, who presided, congratulated the club on its progress. He thought, however, that there was too much racing' and too many clubs. There was not the same fellowship among yachtsmen as in the days when cruising predominated. He paid a tribute to the work of the hon. secretary, Mr. It. Francis, and the hon. treasurer, Mr. PI. R. Arthur.
