How Canadian Youth Clinched Two Olympic Titles at Amsterdam
On a par with New Zealand’s welcome to Kingsford Smith was the triumphal home-coming of Percy Williams, the 20-year-old Vancouver boy, who won both the 100 and 200 metres at the Olympic Games last month. Williams is little more than a boy. He is still at high school in Vancouver, and the enthusiastic townsfolk have subscribed generously to send him to University next year. A “DARK HORSE." He was the “dark horse" of this year’s Olympiad. His best previous time for a hundred yards’ dash was only 10 3-ss, although he had cut out the furlong in 21 4-5. Shrewd heads in Canada, however, marked him out as a champion in the making, and he was sent to Amsterdam primarily to gain experience.
