PAPAKURA TO MERCER

PAVING GREAT SOUTH ROAD HIGHWAYS BOARD’S OFFER Providing the ratepayers of the Franklin County Council approve of the council participating in the cost, the Great South Road will be permanently paved from Papakura to Mercer. Advice that the Main Highways Board was prepared to contribute £ 3 to £1 toward the cost of permanently paving the road was received from the. hoard’s district representative, Mr. L. B. Campbell, at yesterday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council. It is proposed that concrete should be laid from Papakura to the Bombay Hills deviation, and that from the start of the deviation to Mercer a bitumen preparation should be used for surfacing. It was advised that the board’s offer applied to reconstruction work necessary before paving could proceed. The council agx*eed to advise the board that as soon as the estimates of the cost were available consideration would be given to the question of raising a loan for the council’s share of the cost. It was also decided to ask the board to bear the whole cost of metalling the Bombay Hills deviation.
