Thirty N .Z. Boys to Tour America
“EDUCATION BY TRAVEL” YOUNG AUSTRALIA LEAGUE S PROPOSAL Thirty New Zealand boys between the ages of 14 and 17 years will have the opportunity of em barking on a tour of the United States and Canada at the end of the year. Thus is the proposul of the Yount? Australia League. an organisation which adopts the slogan of “Education by Travel.” and arranges overseas tours among the youth of Australia. This year 30 New Zealand boys have been included in the quota, and together with 100 Australian laas. will sail for America and Canada on a six months* tour. Applications -are now being invited from New Zealand boys desirous of making the trip. The cost of the tour will bo JCISS. which includes fares, travelling expenses. laundry and all other contingencies, and the trip will be inder the personal direction of the founder ami honorary director of the league. 43r. J. J. Simons, who has led the previous three overseas tours, and who has at different times been at the head of boys’ touring parties embracing in all about 7.000 boys. In order to give parents an opportunity of talking over the proposal, an officer of the league. Mr. John Tin - ker, will make a tour through the .North and South Islands during October and November. He will arrive in Wellington on September 25. The trip will take in all the show places of the United States and Canada, from Ranff in the north to El l*aso and New Orleans in the south. The New Zealand boys will carry* their country’s flag on all official parades. and the emblem on their uniforms will be the fern leaf of New Zealand instead of a kangaroo as worn by the Australian boys.
