LOSS TO NURSING
MISS A. TAYLOR RETIRES TO REST AFTER 30 YEARS After 30 years’ service in the nursing profession, Miss A. Taylor, lady superintendent of the Auckland Public Hospital, will retire on superannuation at the end of the year. Miss Taylor will benefit under the superannuation scheme inaugurated for nurses in 192 C, and will receive a pension '“based on her term of service since -her probationary days. 3 She first entered the nursing profession as a probationer in the Christchurch Public Hospital in 1899 and went on the staff until 1910. From there she was appointed as a sister in
the Auckland Public Hospital, and was acting-matron between 1912 and 1913, leaving at that period to take up the ; position of matrcyi of the Waihi Hospi- j tal. She remained at Waihi for five years and during her term there she enlisted for war service, spending 15 months overseas in her capacity as a nurse. She returned from the war to Waihi and on the retirement of Miss Orr from the Auckland Hospital, Miss Taylor was appointed lady superintendent of the nursing staff at Auckland and has occupied the position ever since. She has always loved her work and has upheld her position with dignity and efficiency. Among the staff she has respected and honoured for her just and impartial attitude. All who are connected with the hospital are of the opinion that Miss Taylor s retirement is a great Auckland and the nursing profession in Xew Zealand. Her resignation was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board, and it was decided to invite applications for the position, members expressing the opinion that Miss Taylor would be hard to replace.
