HIPPODROME
NEW PICTURES THIS EVENING “Irish Hearts.” a charming story of luck and Irish pluck, will be shown at the Hippodrome Theatre this evening with May McAvoy in the leading role. She plays the role of Patsy, a pretty colleen, happy and carefree, who loves Emmett, a rather shiftless Irish lad. He has determined to go to America to seek his fortune, promising to send for his sweetheart and her father as soon as he obtains a job. News comes that Emmett is working—one of New York’s White Wings—and Patsy takes this as a summons to join him. On board ship, the father, always anxious for a litle “nip,” bribes the steward to sell him some liquor. He has not enough money to pay for his indulgence, but the steward signifies that he will take a shamrock brooch Patsy wears in payment. Although he realises how much she prizes the trinket, her father steals it to give to the steward. Lnheriting the superstitiousness of the people of the “Auld Sod,” Patsy believes the brooch to be a good luck charm and the discovery of its loss drives her wild with apprehension. The second attraction will be an exciting Western story entitled “50,000 Dollars ItevArd." Esther Ralston and Ken Maynard, mounted on his famous horse Tarzan, have the leading roles. HEENEY-TUNNEY FIGHT AT THREE THEATRES The great fight put up recently by a New Zealander to secure the world’s championship boxing title stirred the imagination of his countrymen in a way few events could. Popular interest was centred in the contest, and now that the official film of the- great fight is in Auckland, it is attracting others beside boxing patrons. This film will be shown in three theatres this evening, the Capitol. Edendale and Empire. The 11 strenuous rounds are depicted very clearly, and every phase is shown. Heeney’s rugged strength and courage against the best efforts of the champion are said to arouse the admiration of all.
At each theatre a full#supporting programme will be shown.
