DUTY ON STOCK FOODS
FARMERS’ UNION ATTITUDE Questions of interest to the man on the land came up for discussion at the monthly meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Xew Zealand Farmers’ Union held last evening. Mr. A. A. Ross presided. The Dominion Executive wrote asking for an expression of opinion as to what stock foods it was considered should be exempt from duty. Members contended that all stock foods should be duty free; also that they should not be penalised by high railway freights. It was decided to communicate with the Minister to this effect. A protest against the recent revision of the scale of remuneration to police officers was made in a letter received from ex-Sergeant Rock. The writer stated that the increase in pay would cost the country between £20,000 and £23,000 annually. Members decided that the question was not one for the union.
