WIN IN GERMAN RACE

STUDEBAKERS AGAIN Two Studebaker commanders won all of the highest awards for their class in the German Alpenfahrt endurance and speed contest, according to a cable received from J. K. Wauters, supervisor of European sales for the Studebaker Corporation of America. They were the only cars to complete the test without penalties, and as a result were awarded four separate trophies. The Alpenfahrt contest began on June IS, and was not concluded until six days later. The route covered was one of the most trying in Europe, since most of it is over the Bavarian, Tyro lean and Italian Alps and thence over the Swiss Alps to Southern Germany. On June 18 the contesting cars were checked out of Wernigrode, Germany, and each day thereafter they covered a prescribed distance until their finish was recorded at Heidelberg, Germany. Motors and other important parts were sealed before the start, and whenever a seal was broken for repairs a penalty was inflicted. Daily tasks designed to bring out the ease of handling, roadability and hill climbing prowess of the cars were prescribed. At night the cars were parked under guard and drive rs were not allowed access except at specified times.
