FIRE AT PAPATOETOE

LARGE HOUSE DESTROYED NO WATER HAMPERS BRIGADE (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) PAPATOETOE, To-day. A large seven-roomed wooden house in Flat Bush Road, Papatoetoe, owned by Mr. J. Kelso and occupied by Mr. 'William Whedin, was totally destroyed by fire at ten o’clock last evening. Mr. Whedin was at home in the kitchen and two young children were in bed. A fire was burning in the kitchen grate. After an absence of less than five minutes Mr. Whedin returned to find the kitchen burning furiously. He immediately rushed to save the children and got them outside. A strong westerly wind fanned the flames, and when the Papatoetoe Fire Brigade arrived in quick time the house was a raging furnace. Owing to lack of water the brigade used its first-aid appliance, saving the outbuildings.
