SAILED 3,000,000 MILES

CAPTAIN HEMMING’S RECORD RETIRED FROM SERVICE (United Service) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Friday. Captain F. A. Hemming, who recently retired from the New Zealand Shipping Company’s service, voyaged over 3,000,000 miles, including 1,000,000 during his 15 years in the Miowe/a, and 800,000 as captain of the Rimutaka. About 30 years ago Captain F. A. Hemming received his first command. He had long service in charge of the Miowera, which ran between Canadian and Australian ports before New Zealand was included in the service. The Rimutaka has been trading between the United Kingdom and New Zealand for many years.
