HEENEY’S EXHIBITION DELIGHTS BIG CROWD
BOUT WITH BROTHER Press Association GISBORNE, Friday. To the great delight of a large crowd at the Opera House to-night, Tom Heeney made what is to be his only appearance in the boxing ring in New Zealand, his brother Jack being sparring partner. Tom Heeney was obviously out of condition, carrying about a stone and a-half above his real fighting weight, but in three fast rounds he simply played with the former middle-weight champion of New Zealand. A change was noticed in Heeney's style since his last appearance in the Dominion. He forced the pace all the way, and brought into action much half-arm hitting with both hands, but as befitted the occasion, the blows, while snappy, lacked viciousness. The crowd was delighted beyond bounds. In a six-round amateur bout. Seastrand (Napier) gained a decision over Dry burg (Napier). Heeney leaves Gisborne on Sunday morning for "Wellington. The Boxing Association’s function on Monday evening in his honour will be attended by the Prime Minister, members of Cabinet, and of the House of Representatives.
