DISPUTE SETTLED
TROUBLE ON PORT NAPIER MEN RETURN TO WORK The waterside workers who ceased unloading cargo from No. 4 hold of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Napier on Wednesday, commenced again yesterday afternoon. The dispute was settled by the owners agreeing to pay the men a flat rate of 2s lid, an increase of 6d on the award rates, which the disputants accepted, although they oi*iginally demanded salvage rates of 7s 6d an hour, and later an increase of Is on the award rates. Owing to the dispute only two hours discharging from the hold was done between Wednesday and yesterday afternoon. Before the dispute was amicably settled the matter was fully discussed at several meetings of the disputes committee and the union officials. The settlement of the dispute was assisted considerably by Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hosx>if ;l Board, who acted as adjudicator. The remainder of the Auckland potation of the Port Napier’s cargo is expected to be dischai'ged by Monday next, when the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, Ltd., hope to dispatch the vessel for Dunedin and Bluff to put out the remainder of her cargo.
