FIVE SAILORS KILLED
OIL-TANKER BLOWS UP
SPANISH SHIP RESCUES 29 (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and y.Z. Press Association) (United Service) NEW YORK, Wednesday. An explosion occurred on board the oil-tanker Shreveport while she was at sea, bound from Philadelphia to gulf ports. Five seamen were killed and four others were injured. The disaster occurred off the coast of North Carolina. Twenty-nine survivors were rescued by the crew of the Spanish steamer Aldecoa.
The Shreveport is an oil-burning vessel of 6,822 tons. She was built in 191 Sby the Bethlehem Corporation, Ltd., for the Cities Service Transportation Company. Her port of register is New York. The Aldecoa is a vessel of 6,089 tons, owned by F. Aldecoa, of Bilbao, Spain.
