“POACHER” FINED £5
TRAPS ON RANGITOTO A. C. Lynch, who tried to trap opossums on Rangitoto Island without permission, was fined £5 and costs at the Police Court this morning. A. J. Brown, a younger man, who convicted for the same offence and discharged, was described by Sub-In-spector McCarthy as under the influence of Lynch. In a statement to the police at Devon - Port, Lynch admitted the offence, sayJ ng that he had borrowed a boat and gone over to the island, with the intention of spending a day fishing. He had sofhe cyanide with him, but it was hot fresh, being part of the stuff he had used when trapping, last year, ■Lynch admitted setting a trap, but stated that he had not been successruyn catching any opossums. Lynch is now working at Riversaid Sub-Inspector McCarthy, out Brown does not do much work.”
