Death After Lorry Accident The death has occurred in the Rotorua Hospital of Mr. Harry Piripi. at ono time a noted footballer and athlete. He was employed by the Public Works Department. Death was tin result of an accident when a lorry overturned on Tengae Road on September 10. An inquest will be held. George Edward Bellinger, aged 25. an Australian with many aliases and a long list of previous convictions, was sentenced at the Oisborne # Court to-day to three months’ imprisonment for forgery and false pretences at Maungnturoto and Whangaref.
Drunken Motorist Fined At the Ashburton Police Court today William Robert Furniss, a garage proprietor, was charged with beintr intoxicated in charge of a motor-car and fined £lO. His licence was suspended until the end of the registration year. —P.A. • • • Fatal Collision No blame attached to the motorman. was the finding of the coroner at ♦he inquest on John William McKay, billards saloon keeper, who was killed through colliding with .a tram on Page’s Road, Christchurch, while riding a bicycle. Evidence showed that McKay apparently rode into the tram with his head down. * * * Illegally In Hotel The excuse that they had been invited to the hotel was put forward by Andrew Ingram Southberg and his son. John Southberg, when they were charged in the Waihi Police Court with being illegally on premises at Waikino. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., said the onus of justifying their presence on the premises was on defendants. They had given an explanation which, if accepted, would be a valid excuse, but he was not prepared to accept it. Each of the defendants was convicted and fined £1 and costs.
