Government Bonds Neglected TRADING on ’Change continues to be restricted to within a very small compass. There is a steady demand for all the better class securities, but buyers for the most part are not prepared to meet sellers in their ideas of value.
The banking section is quiet, with Nationals of Australasia the only scrip showing any outstanding strength. Abraham and Williams preference drew a seller this morning at 91s. Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering ordinaries show a firming tendency, buyers improving* to 54s without drawing a declaration from sellers. Pukemiros have found justification for their recent strength in the publication of the balance sheet showing an increase in the dividend rate and a further increase in net turnover. The scrip was sought this morning at 70s. Renowns maintain their increased strength, with steadv buyers in at 11s 6d.
Huddart Parkers, despite the shipping trouble on the other side of the Tasman, are firmly'lield, with the market steady at 495.
Kauri Timbers are neglected at the moment. The timber market, generally, is lifeless. Wilsons Cements are steady at recent levels, showing no signs of firming in sympathy with yesterday’s improved market in the South. The gilt-edge market is temporarily neglected and the list has a very small showing of declared buyers. Business yesterday afternoon: On ’Change—Auckland Gas, 235. Reported —Wilsons Cement, 395; Hayward’s Pictures, 20s; Bank of New Zealand, 61s 3d. Business at this morning’s early call: Reported—New Zealand Breweries (deb.), 245. Business at mid-day: Reported— Huddart Parker, 495.
