HOCKEY
SHIELD GAMES CONTINUE SOMERVILLE V. NORTH SHORE The fifth series of hockey matches for the Devonport Shield will be decided at Remuera to-morrow. The playing areas having dried hard, fast matches are assured. The feature match will be a clash between and North Shore, to take place on No. 2 ground at 3.5 p.m. The former team is at the head of the list, and Shore, one match, stands sixth. Shore will field its strongest eleven, and a keen battle should result. Epiphany and St. Luke’s will try conclusions on No. 2 at .1.50 p.m. The latter is bracketed first with Somerville, having as yet suffered no loss. If University is able to maintain the good quality shown a week ago it should have little difficulty in winning from Training College. This game will be fought out on No. 1 at 3.5 p.m. An interesting match should result from the meeting of Otahuhu and Mount Eden on No. 3 at 3.5. Unless Otahuhu gives a better exposition than its performance last Saturday, Mount Eden should win fairly comfortably. Otahuhu is, however, only one point behind Eden. Somerville Colts have greatly improved lately and should be successful against University Whippets on No. 3 at 1.50 p.m. Senior Grade Mount Eden.—Anderson, Mainland, Surman, Wells, Chaplin, Kelly, Hedges, Fletchei*, Ash, Alexander, Penman. WIDER WICKET SOUGHT (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Thursday. The committee of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, at a meeting at Leeds, adopted a resolution expressing dissatisfaction with the big scores made in the present season and favouring the widening of the wicket an inch by increasing the diameter of the stumps. The club is prepared to experiment with any proposal made by the Marylebone Cricket Club.
