N.Z. LADIES’ TITLE REPRESENTATIVE ENTRIES Entries are on the point of closing for the New Zealand ladies’ golf championships to commence at Middlemore on September 27. Players whose entries have been received include Collinson, Manawatu, present holder of the title; Mrs. Guy Williams, Masterton; Miss Olive Kay, Otago; Mrs. S. Acheson, Nelson; Miss Crystall, Christchurch; Miss M. Payton, Rotorua; Miss Gambrill, Miss Upham and Mrs. Shailer Weston, Wellington; Miss Culling, Mrs, Deighton and Mrs. Dufaur, Auckland. CLUB MATCHES
Club matches have resulted as follows: —
Opotiki.—ln the first round of the Whakatane Golf Club’s championship McCulloch beat Buddie, Ryde beat Harris, King beat York, Reynolds Carter. In the semi-final McCulloch beat Ryder and Reynolds beat King. In the final Reynolds beat McCulloch fairly easily over 36 holes. Reynolds won the first three holes, halved tlip next and was 8 up at the IBth hole. McCulloch, reduced his opponent’s lead to 4 up, but Reynolds won at the 32nd hole, 6 up and 4 to play.
In the junior championship Stubbs beat A. G. Clark, Hyland beat Platt, Innes beat Wilkinson, Meikle beat W. M. Clarke. In the semi-final Stubbs beat Hyland and Innes beat Meikle. The play-off in the final for the Fortune Cup between E. P. York and H. Pirini, who tied for fii'st place, was won by York, 6 up and 5 to play.
Pupuke.—The bogey competitiQn for Mr. Grimwade’s trophy, played by members of the Pupuke Golf Club resulted in a win for I. G. Mackenzie. In the semi-finals of the championship. E. W. Mills beat R. Parker, 3 and 2. Tlie final between L G. Mackenzie and E. W. Mills will be played to-morrow over 36 holes, play commencing at 10.30. The final of the junior championship between C. H. Kingsford and F. R. Norris will be to-morrow, commencing at two o’clock.
Akarana. The monthly button played by members of the Akarana Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Miss G. Bygate. The C grade match was won by Mrs. Young, 126. Following are the scores returned in the second round of the Stewart Dawson Cup competition: Miss Bygate, 109 —32, 77; Miss Eskrigge, 116—35, 81: Miss Darrach, 97—15, 82; Miss Parr, 109—27, 82;. Mrs. Preston, 111—29, 82; Miss Young, 118 —36, 82; Miss Baiq, 117 —33, 84; Mrs. Gilmore, 110—25, 85.
In the final of the Bacon Cup competition Miss Cox won from Mrs. Cox, 2 and 1. A flag match will be played to-morrow, players to choose partners. Te Awamutu.—The draw for the first round of the Te Awamutu Ladies’ Club senior championship is: Miss Focke plays Mrs. McDonald. Miss K. Wallace plays Miss Quin; Mrs. Teasdale and Mrs. O’Sullivan have a bye.
In the junior match to be played under championship conditions, the draw is as follows: Miss H. Civil v. Miss Man son, Mrs. White v. Mrs. M. Barnett, Mrs. Bond v. Mrs. Chamberlain, Mrs. R. Jones v. Mrs. Peake. The following is the draw for the qualifying rounds for the Bertram Cup and the senior and junior championships of the Te Awamutu Golf Club: M. Otway v. M. Barnett, J. P. O’Sullivan v. S. Waiuku.—The tie for the Barstow Y ase, between Mrs. Forbes, Miss Muir and Miss Howden, was played during the week, the result being a win for Miss Howden, who returned a net card of 87 Both Mrs. Forbes and Miss Muir returned net scores of 89.
On Wednesday a match between the married and single members was played, the result being a win for the former by one match. Unfortunately the weather conditions were bad and only four matches were played. The results were: Mrs., Forbes beat Miss Glynes, 1 up ; Mrs. Ohlson lost to Miss Muir, 1 down : Mrs. Barker and Miss Hull, all square ; Mrs. Munro beat Miss Austin, 2 up. AUSTRALIAN TITLE NETTLEFORD AND KEANE IN FINAL (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Thursday, The semi-finals in the Australian amateur golf championship were played in a heavy gale on the Rose Bay links to-day. Nettlefold defeated Fawcett at the 38th hole, and Keane defeated Hancock at the 37th hole. The final will be played on Saturday.
