BRITAIN LOSES FRIEND

GREAT AFRICAN CHIEF (Australian and N.Z. Press Association J CAPETOWN, Tuesday. The African chief, Jonathan, grandson of the great Basutoland chief Moshess, has died, aged 83. The funeral, with European rites, was attended by thousands of natives. Throughout his life Jonathan was a supporter of the British Government. In the rebellion of 1880 he made a notable night raid and saved the lives of Europeans at Hlotse. He also heavily defeated the recalcitrants in ISS4.
