NEW RAILWAY STATION
YARD AND DEVIATION READY NEXT YEAR (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, To-day. In his railways statement, presented to Parliament yesterday, the Minister for Railways, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said that the Auckland-Westfield railway deviation should be : ready for use in from six to nine months. Platelaying, ballasting and signalling work has yet to be done. The new station yard at Auckland is expected to be ready by the end of next year. The new outward goods shed is nearing completion, and another month should see the contractor off the site. “It will be necessary,” the Minister says, “temporarily to transfer the inward goods yard to a site clear of the railway land. When this is done and the new station building is in hand, the finish of this wirk will be in sight. Before the end of the year I anticipate the new station and deviation will be in use.”
