SAYING GOODBYE

TWO WOMEN FIGHT FINE OF £1 RESULTS Before leaving for Whangarei Mabel Jackson decided to have a farewell party, which she held in the private bar of an hotel. The guests got rather out of hand, and the function ended in a fight. Jackson, a domestic, aged 29, was charged at the Police Court this morning with assaulting Mary McEwon on August 14. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that both McEwon and Jackson had been drinking and fighting, but that the former had broken a bone, which had resulted in a spell at the hospital for several weeks. For accused, Mr. J. J. Sullivan said that Jackson had been saying good-bye to a few lady friends before leaving to work in Whangarei. McEwon had mentioned that Jackson “had done time,” after which the fight started. A fine of £1 was imposed.
