SERIOUS FIRE ON SHIP
CASTLEMOOR AT ALBANY BADLY DAMAGED CONDITION (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) PERTH, Monday. The Moor Line steamer Castlemoor arrived at Albany to-day with a very bad list, and with fire burning fiercely in two of her holds. All efforts to cope with the outbreak have been futile. The steamer’s plates have buckled under the heat, and her mizzen-mast has sunk two feet. The vessel, in a badly damaged condition, was beached. The fire on board was first noticed on August 23, when the vessel was in the South Indian Ocean. On the run to Albany all the members of the crew were compelled to work long hours in blinding smoke and penetrating fumes, pumping tons of water every hour on the flames.
