NO SEAT FOR CHINA
LEAGUE COUNCIL VOTE SMALL POWERS REVOLT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and 'N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 1.47 p.m. LONDON, Monday. China did not obtain a vote of reeligibility for a Council seat. She required 34 and polled 27, while there were 23 against the proposal. Spain is certain of the European non-permanent seat on the Council, and Venezuela of the South American seat. The rejection of China leaves the Asian choice between Persia and Siam. A later message says the election for three non-permanent seats on the Council, for which 26 is the absolute majority, resulted in Spain getting 46 votes, Russia 40 and Venezuela 35. Siam polled only six. The annual report of the League had been transcended by the more intriguing question about China. The proposal to make China re-eligible had the support of the British Empire delegates. There were signs at the week-end that the smaller Powers were revolting against what they regarded as the unmerited pampering of China, in the face of her bad record and default of her annual fees.
