POPPLEWELL’S WIN IN N.S.W. (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Monday. In the last two rounds of the open Solf championship of Australia the scores of A. D. S. Duncan (New Zealand) were 81, 78, 79, 81, total 319. He was placed 3Gth. Popplewell's win, which was popular, *as the result of faultless play through°nt He only faltered once. Most of the holes were done in bogey or better. Rufus Stewart made a great effort to retain the title, but his round of 78 on the previous day was too much to retrieve. He also missed two putts for inexplicable reason. A similar failing destroyed Sinclair’s chances of victory, which earlier had been regarded hopefully. The Australian amateur foursomes championship was decided to-day at Rose Bay links In fine weather, and under ideal golfing conditions. It was * ol * by B. C. Betting and J. Hunter. JJth an aggregate of 154, in rounds of *8 and 76. A. Russell and Fawcett and Davis and Harrison, who tied with an aggregate of 155. were the runners-up. I). S. Duncan and Winser finished ***** an aggregate of 171.
