ROWING CLUB DANCE

NORTH SHORE FUNCTION The Social Committee of the North Shore Rowing- Club held a gala night in the Foresters Hall, Devonport, last evening. Mesdames Seager. Sharp, Farquharson and Rutland had control of the refreshments.- The Kit Kat Band supplied the music, and Miss Kathleen O’Connor judged a combined fox trot and waltz competition. The winners were Miss E. Bartley and Mr. Wall, Miss T. Lord and Mr. Hyde; one point separated first and second place. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Bowmar and Mr. Rosan. Rykers, iris satin and silver lace. • 50 YEARS WED ONE TREE HILL CELEBRANTS With their family about them, Mr. and Mrs. John Gemmell, of New Street, One Tree Hill, to-day celebrate their golden wedding. Mr. Gemmell, who was box-n*in Ayrshire 81 years ago, arrived in Auckland in January, 1866. For many years lie was engaged sheepfarming in the Wairoa district, Hawke’s Bay, where he owned the “Kiwi” station. He is one of the oldest justices in New Zealand, having Jfeen given his commission 50 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Gemmell have lived in retirement in Auckland foxseveral years. . There are 10 children living, and more than 40 grandchildren.
